Peacekeepers to address complaints and public safety issues regarding ATVs

After receiving numerous complaints and concerns over public safety, the Kahnaw�:ke Peacekeepers will be cracking down and enforcing the ATV Law.

The Peacekeepers have responded to calls about All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) speeding on the recreational and bike paths, and through public green spaces.

ATVs  and other off-road vehicles are being used as a mode of transportation in an around Kahnaw�:ke, often by underage users and without the proper safety equipment, which contravenes the ATV Law.

�We are doing this as a preventative measure, before it gets out of hand,� said Chief Peacekeeper Dwayne Zachaire. 

Some of these modified ATVs are much louder and are being used on residential roads, which are having a negative impact on the quality of life.

Residents are being reminded that the ATV Law has been in effect since 2004, and that failure to comply with the law could result in fines and/or seizure of your ATV.
