MCK supports local initiatives

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to inform the community that its Finance Administration and Operations (FAO) Committee has provided financial support in the amount of $9,162.70 from April 1, 2017, to present. The following are some of the initiatives supported:
- KSDPP Fore the Kids Golf Tournament $250
- SOCAM Teweikan Aboriginal Music Gals $150
- Language & Cultural Fair (postponed until April 3 & 4) $1000
- KMF Karonhiaráhstha’s Winter Wonderland $450
- Sisters in Strength Wellness Retreat Support Workers $200
- Holiday Train/Kateri Food Basket (In-kind services) $500
- Holiday Parade $1000
- Kateri Memorial Foundation 5th Annual Giving Campaign $250
- Emergo Foundation (respite for families of autistic people) $250
- Assistance to family for medical needs (+ In-kind services) $250
- Iakwahwatsiratátie Language Nest $1000
Any Community member can view the entire list of recipients in person at the MCK main offices or by writing a letter of request to the FAO Committee.
As of today, there is a remaining balance of $5,837.30 for the fiscal year 2017/2018.
About the FAO
The FAO Committee oversees and governs the administrative, operational and financial affairs on behalf of the MCK. Among its many responsibilities, the Committee receives and approves donation requests, making decisions based on consultation and collaboration with proponents, while respecting financial limitations. Donation approvals are based upon the MCK Donation Policy and Procedures, which generally has a maximum contribution of $500 (though exceptions can be made).
The FAO Committee is made up of three Council Chiefs and one MCK staff member. The current committee is comprised of Chiefs Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer, Arlene Jacobs and Kenneth McComber, and Employee Representative Andrea Montour (only the Chiefs have a vote in decisions). FAO meetings are observed by the Executive Director and Executive Financial Officer, who take part in discussions but have no vote. The FAO Committee is accountable directly to Chief and Council.
