The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community of major staffing changes within the Kahnawà:ke Public Safety Unit.

Ron Skye, Commissioner of Public Safety, will be officially retiring on January 25, 2019. Mr. Skye had advised the MCK administration on September 1, 2018 that he would be retiring but had agreed to remain with the organization until January 25, 2019 to assist in the transition.

Following two (2) public postings for the Commissioner position with no success to secure a replacement for Mr. Skye, a decision was made to restructure and incorporate some of the responsibilities of the commissioner into the Director position and seek out prospective candidates through recruitment. Coincidentally, current Director of Public Safety Arnold Lazare is going to be pursuing other interests that will not allow him to work with Public Safety full-time. For succession planning purposes, Mr. Lazare will transfer to the position of Special Projects Advisor to the Unit.

Following a comprehensive evaluation process, Lloyd Philips was deemed the successful candidate for the position of Director of Public Safety. Mr. Phillips, who currently sits as a Council Chief, has announced his resignation from that position effective the date he begins his new position. An announcement will be forthcoming regarding a by-election to replace him at the Council table.

The MCK wishes to congratulate Mr. Phillips and welcome him to the Public Safety Unit. He will assume his new responsibilities on February 4, 2019.

The MCK also wishes to express its deep appreciation to Ron Skye for his many years of service and contributions to the community and wishes him all the best in his retirement.
