The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that it has confirmed the selection of five (5) organizational members, as well as the Community Representative, of the Cannabis Health & Safety Committee, as required by the Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Law.

The Law provides that the Committee’s members will be confirmed by Chief & Council and will include one representative of each of the following organizations, all of whom were approved unanimously at yesterday’s duly-convened Council meeting:
  1. Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke: Dwaine White
  2. Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre: Valerie Diabo
  3. Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takéhnhas Community Services: Cheryl Zacharie
  4. Kahnawà:ke Public Safety Unit: Dennis Leborgne
  5. Kahnawà:ke Education Center: Merrick Diabo
These representatives were chosen by the organizations they represent.

As David Diabo was the only person to apply for the position of Community Representative, he was confirmed as such by acclamation.

Pursuant to the Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Law, the Health & Safety Committee will monitor the impact of the Law and the regulations on the health and safety of the Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke. The Committee will also be responsible for making recommendations to the Kahnawà:ke Cannabis Control Board or Chief & Council for amendments to the Law or the regulations that the committee deems appropriate to minimize the harms of cannabis use within the Territory.
