KEPOs No Mow May/Nonen Onerahtohkowa Nikahawi, Tohsa Sewathentiak Challenge Returns

The Kahnawake Environment Protection Office (KEPO) is inviting Kahnawakehronon to join the challenge for the month of May. The No Mow May/Nó:nen Onerahtohkó:wa Nikahá:wi, Tóhsa’ Sewathéntia’k! challenge asks community members to refrain from cutting their lawns for the entire month with the goal of supporting biodiversity and pollinators. The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is participating by reducing maintenance outside of priority areas cleared for public safety.

By waiting until June to cut our lawns, we:

Allow pollinator insects, like endangered bees, and their food supplies the opportunity to undergo a critical part of their life cycle.
Encourage native plant species to grow and thrive.
Conserve resources, time, and money by not using lawn care equipment.

Participants will be asked to send weekly progress photos to environmentprotection@mck.ca. All participants who complete the No Mow May challenge will be entered into a draw to win one of three pollinator-themed prizes worth $150!
