JOINT PRESS RELEASE

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) and Kanienkehaka Onkwawenna Raotitiohkwa Language and Cultural Center (KORLCC) are excited to announce an Artistic Mural contest collaboration with the IKEA Distribution Center of Beauharnois open to all Kahnawake artists. This contest seeks to showcase a local artists work on a twenty-six (26) feet by eight (8) feet mural at the entrance of the IKEA Beauharnois warehouse.

This partnership between MCK, KORLCC, and IKEA is a proactive response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canadas Call to Action. Weve developed a national Indigenous Reconciliation Strategy that will continue to evolve over the next several years, said Annie Corriveau, Communications Manager, IKEA Beauharnois and IKEA Brossard. Our ambition is to contribute to an environment where respect for Indigenous rights is integrated into all areas of our business and society.

The contest launched on National Indigenous Peoples Day, Friday, June 21, 2024.

Interested artists are invited to complete the registration form here, by Friday, July 26th, and submit a sketch of their concept art. The theme should reflect the rich culture and heritage of Kahnaw:ke. The winning design will be selected by IKEA employees.

This initiative marks the first step in IKEAs journey towards Indigenous Reconciliation, focusing on establishing meaningful and reciprocal relationships with Kahnaw;ke and Indigenous communities across Canada.
