Dry Conditions a danger in Tioweró:ton: temporary ban on campfires

The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to warn the community of extremely dry conditions in the Territory of Tioweró:ton and therefore a ban on campfires will be in effect until further notice.

With very little rain in recent weeks, water levels have become severely low in the creeks and lakes and continue to fall. A fire fueled by dried moss occurred on the evening of Saturday, May 23rd. It had begun to spread but was fortunately quickly contained by Tioweró:ton Caretakers.

Community members traveling to the Territory are asked to cooperate with the Caretakers for the safety of our land, property and our People.
