Mercier Bridge: closing of Ramp 3 beginning June 3rd
06/01/2010
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated and the Ministère des Transports du Québec will completely close the Mercier Bridge off ramp towards Châteauguay to traffic beginning Thursday, June 3rd for a period of about four months. Châteauguay bound traffic will be directed to the La Prairie off ramp (Ramp 2) and then to a temporary two lanes wide detour road. Traffic will then pass under the bridge to allow access to Route 138 toward Châteauguay (see map below). This temporary detour will facilitate the work of the contractor, Mohawk Bridge Consortium, to replace the deck of the off ramp with prefabricated concrete deck panels. The above procedure will permit the contractor to work uninterruptedly so as to complete the work efficiently and restore the bridge ramp to users in a timely fashion. The Kahnawà:ke Peacekeepers will be monitoring the new detour road to ensure safety, and to enforce posted signalization. Several patrol units will be stationed at various points of the detour road for a period of one week during the afternoon rush hour. The Kahnawà:ke Peacekeepers would like to remind motorists to respect posted signs to ensure the safety of construction workers. Trucks are prohibited from using the detour road, and must use Highway 132 east and Autoroute 30 west to access Châteauguay. For further information, to consult maps or to follow the work progress, visit the project blog at: www.mercierbridge.ca.
