Use caution in construction detour zones
06/07/2010
The Community Protection Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to remind motorists and pedestrians to use extreme caution when driving or walking through the many areas with road construction detours.
An area of particular concern is under the Mercier Bridge near JoJo’s Nursery where traffic lights and a crosswalk were recently installed for pedestrians as part of the bridge rehabilitation detour (see image below). It is strongly recommended that pedestrians always cross the road at the lights and make sure all vehicles have come to a complete stop before doing so.
With so many areas affected by road construction, motorists should slow down and obey the posted construction zone speed limits for the safety of pedestrians and construction workers. Pedestrians should likewise be aware of vehicle traffic movement and behave prudently.
