MCK supports Tewatohnhi’saktha proposal
06/22/2010
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is supporting Tewatohnhi’saktha’s intent to submit a bid, on behalf of the community, for 25 MegaWatts of wind-generated electricity. The bid, which will be done in partnership with a wind energy leader, is in response to a Hydro-Québec request for proposals from Aboriginal communities. Representatives from Tewatohnhi’saktha met with Council yesterday (Tuesday) to discuss the issue and to request official support from Chief and Council, which was granted unanimously through a Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Resolution. “This is an exceptional opportunity to become involved in an industry that is environment-friendly and could bring Kahnawà:ke a significant source of income for many years,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhrhon Delisle, Jr. The location of the proposed operation will not be within the Territory. Details will be discussed at a community information session that will be held next Thursday, 1 Ohiari’kó:wa/July.
