Breakdown in sewage system
07/15/2010
The Public Works Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) would like to inform all Kahnawa'kehró:non that a major component of the sewage treatment process has broken down, which has caused interruption in the treatment process. To deal with the problem, the Water & Sewer Team had to utilize a bypass valve. This means that the sewage will temporarily bypass the Sewage Treatment Plant and exit directly into the St. Lawrence River untreated. The Community is asked to be cautious when using the river for recreational activities, heading downstream (east) from the St. Laurent Train Bridge (black bridge), where the outfall pipe is located. Repairs will take place as soon as possible and the Community will be informed upon their completion. The Kahnawą:ke Environment Protection Office and Community Health Representatives of Kahnawą:ke Shakotiia'takehnhas Community Services have been notified and are monitoring the situation.
