Dogs contracting ‘kennel cough’

10/01/2010

The Animal Protection Department of the Community Protection Unit would like to advise the community that a condition known as Canine Kennel Cough is currently spreading among dogs within Kahnawà:ke.

Canine symptoms of this condition include cold-like coughing and sneezing. While normally not fatal, it is highly contagious and can cause serious complications to the health of your pet if left untreated.

The condition may also be contracted by humans who are immune depressed, although it is very rare.

Pet owners are urged to take preventative measures by limiting the exposure of their dogs with other dogs and having them properly vaccinated at your local veterinarian.

If you believe that your pet has contracted Kennel Cough, please report it to the Animal Protection Department by calling 450-632-0635.
