Mercier Bridge: night and weekend closures expected from October 4th to 25th

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated and the Ministère des Transports du Québec announced the beginning of many weeknight and weekend lane closures scheduled for the Mercier Bridge from October 4th to 25th. Weeknights: one Kahnawà:ke-bound lane out of two will be closed Monday to Friday, 10pm to 10am according to the following schedule: • Monday, October 4 to Friday, October 8 • Monday, October 11 to Friday, October 15 • Monday, October 18 to Friday, October 22 Weekends: the entire Kahnawà:ke-bound side of the bridge will be closed to traffic (see map below), with one lane open in each direction on the Montreal-bound side from Friday at 11pm to Monday at 5am. This major work will occur over three weekends, according to the following schedule: • Friday, October 8 to Monday, October 11 • Friday, October 15 to Monday, October 18 • Friday, October 22 to Monday, October 25 Please also note that the width of lanes will be reduced during the work. Each lane will be reduced to 3.3 metres. Trucks exceeding this width should take an optional route. These closures allow repairs to be made which will strengthen the steel structure that supports the bridge deck over the river. Installation of new membranes, steel plates and repairs to the existing steel will be carried out. This repair work was initiated at the beginning of the construction season and will be completed in the coming weeks.
