Mercier Bridge weekend closures reminder
10/22/2010
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to remind motorists that the Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated and the Ministère des Transports du Québec will continue with weekend lane closures scheduled for the Mercier Bridge from October 22nd to 25th. The entire Kahnawà:ke-bound side of the bridge will be closed to traffic, with one lane open in each direction on the Montreal-bound side from tonight (Friday) at 11pm to Monday at 5am to do work on the steel structure under the bridge. Please also note that the width of lanes will be reduced during the work. Each lane will be reduced to 3.3 metres. Trucks exceeding this width should take an optional route. Due to a cancellation of scheduled work last weekend another closure from Friday, October 29th to Monday, November 1st has been added. As well, there will be mobile re-lamping work done on Tuesday, October 26th from 10pm to 5am. During this period, please note that one lane will be closed in the area where the work will be executed. These closures allow repairs to be made which will strengthen the steel structure that supports the bridge deck over the river. Installation of new membranes, steel plates and repairs to the existing steel will be carried out. This repair work was initiated at the beginning of the construction season and will be completed in the coming weeks.
