Holiday Train returns to Kahnawà:ke
11/16/2010
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that the Canadian Pacific Railways’ Holiday Train will once again visit Kahnawà:ke in what has become an annual tradition in the community. Beautifully decorated with thousands of colored lights, the train is scheduled to arrive at 6:45pm at the Adirondack Junction on Friday, 26 Kentenhkó:wa/November. A half-hour musical show begins at about 7pm featuring Juno-Award winning Melanie Doane. Volunteers will be on site to accept donations and to distribute hot chocolate, hot dogs and glow sticks. Over the past decade, the Holiday Train has raised over $4 million and two million pounds of food for local food banks. The Kahnawà:ke Christmas Basket Committee has been the recipient of donations from those attending the event and the Canadian Pacific Railway. Special note: Due to road construction and traffic detours, the Community Protection Unit would like to announce that parking will be restricted to a special area designated for this event (see map on page 2). To access parking, vehicles must enter from the eastbound 132 service road (one way) coming from Route 207. Peacekeepers will be on hand to direct traffic. To reduce traffic volume in the area, the MCK is encouraging the use of the free bus service provided. Two buses will depart from the town garage at 6pm to bring passengers to the Adirondack Junction and then return after the event (see bus route on page 2).
