Mercier Bridge: New restriction for tow trucks
02/14/2011
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke would like to inform the community that the Ministčre des Transports (MTQ) wishes to inform Tow Truck Operators that they are forbidden on the Kahnawą:ke bound lanes of the Mercier Bridge. Only the exclusive towing will be allowed on the Kahnawą:ke bound lanes. This follows the ban for heavy vehicles in force since December 29, 2010. Vehicles covered by this restriction are those with gross vehicle weight rating greater than or equal to 4500 kg. The proposed detours for drivers of vehicles covered by this restriction are the Monseigneur Langlois Bridge and the Champlain Bridge. There is no load restriction on the Montreal bound lanes of the Bridge. The MTQ is aware of the constraints that this decision may cause and is doing everything possible to find a solution. They also wish to clarify that the Mercier Bridge must remain safe for road users and that traffic flow must never override safety.
