Proposed amendments to Sanitary Conditions Law to undergo 30-Day Review
03/28/2011
The Lands Unit of the MCK wishes to advise the community that the 30-day review of the draft amendments to the Sanitary Conditions Law will begin on Tuesday, 29 Enniskó:wa/March until Onerahtókha/April 29, 2011.
The proposed amendments have been determined a Type 2 legislation, meaning that it is one that affects “a segment or specific interest within the community.”
“There is a real need to create more effective regulations to allow us (Kahnawà:ke) to better control landfill and other substances that are brought onto the Territory,” said Environment Portfolio Chief Clinton Phillips.
As indicated in the Community Decision Making Process, Type 2 legislation must go to a community review process that consists of a 30-day review and up to three public readings. Next steps will be announced by the Legislative Coordinating Commission.
The original law is available for viewing at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com under “Legislation.” The draft amendments to the Sanitary Conditions Law will also be posted on that site and will be also available at the Capital Unit (located across from the Youth Center) and the MCK main office reception starting on Tuesday, 29 Enniskó:wa/March.
Any feedback on the proposed amendments can be given to Heather Jacobs-Whyte (450-638-8244, heather.jacobs@mck.ca) or Eva Johnson (450-635-9554, eva.johnson@mck.ca).
