MCK asks: “How do you wish to be consulted on the Seigneury?”
05/18/2011
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) announced at the Spring Community Meeting that it has launched a major initiative to get feedback on how the community prefers to be consulted regarding a possible settlement of the Seigneury of Sault St. Louis land grievance.
The MCK wishes to make it clear that a settlement of the long-standing issue is not imminent at this time. However, this information should be gathered so as to be better prepared for this eventuality.
The list of possible choices includes, but is not limited to,
• Small group visits • Consultation drop-in center • Special community consultation meeting • E-mail or Facebook • Telephone • Other (special circumstance)
The goal of the survey is to give every Kahnawa’kehró:non an opportunity to declare their wishes on this topic by Seskéha/August of this year.
Lori Jacobs has been hired as the Consultation Officer to lead this initial period. Surveys will be made available through various means. She is available at sssl@mck.ca or by phone at 514-627-6792.
