MCK addressing Caisse Populaire Kahnawake investment income taxation issues

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that it is aware of notices sent to community members/clients of the Caisse Populaire Kahnawake regarding taxation of investment income.

The issue was addressed at 21 Ohiarí:ha/June Council meeting. Due to the complexity of the matter, Chief & Council, along with its legal and tax team, are planning to meet with the management and board of directors of the Caisse Populaire in order to further assess this issue.

“While it is the responsibility of the Caisse to inform its clients about these matters, we have an obligation to closely monitor any and all developments regarding taxation,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. “We plan to keep a clear line of communication open between ourselves and the Caisse.”
