09/01/2011

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that Kahente Horn-Miller will be the new Coordinator for the Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (LCC), which is the body that administers the Community Decision Making Process.

Ms. Horn-Miller will begin her duties on 5, Kenténha/October, at which time the Coordinator’s position will become a full-time job. She holds a doctorate degree in Humanities and masters in anthropology. She also has an extensive educational background that includes political science. She has had articles published in various academic journals on such topics as citizenship issues, politics, indigenous women’s issues, and Haudenosaunee culture and traditions.

The current Coordinator, Linda Delormier, has been managing the activities of the Legislative Coordinating Commission on a half-time basis. Ms. Delormier will assist in the orientation process before moving over to assume other duties within the Office of the Council of Chiefs.

“We are extremely pleased that Kahente has agreed to take on this significant challenge,” said Chief Mike Bush. “She is the most capable of a number of very good candidates, and brings a high level of education, knowledge and passion to the position. Additionally, on behalf of all of us on the LCC, I’d like to acknowledge Linda’s hard work and dedication during these transitional times and wish her all the best.”

Since 2009, Kahnawà:ke laws are proposed; debated; and passed via the Community Decision Making Process.
