Four Kahnawą:ke kids to visit Disney World courtesy Dreams Take Flight
11/01/2011
Four Kahnawą:ke children will be enjoying the trip of a lifetime tomorrow (Wednesday), visiting Walt Disney World courtesy of Dreams Take Flight.
Early tomorrow morning the kids will board a special Air Canada flight bound for Orlando, Florida, where they will spend the entire day at the theme park with approximately 175 other children and a group of volunteer chaperones. Chief Clinton Phillips and Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke employees Ken Bourque, David Lahache and Trina Diabo Jacobs comprise the Kahnawą:ke liaison with Dreams Take Flight. They will join the youngsters and their families to see them off.
This is such a great initiative, said Chief Phillips. I participated last year, so Ive seen first-hand just how special it really is.
Dreams Take Flight, which is organized by volunteer staff from Air Canada, takes socially, physically and mentally challenged children from across Canada to Disney World. The Montreal chapter has been in operation for the past seventeen years.
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke has been involved with the Dreams Take Flight since 2004. Children are selected by Kahnawake Shakotiiatakehnhas Community Services based on the requirements and standards set by Dreams Take Flight.
The group will return late tomorrow evening.
