12/19/2011
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to congratulate the members of Kahnawà:ke’s Catholic community on the announcement that Kateri Tekakwì:tha has been named by the Vatican for canonization.
Upon her canonization, she will be declared a saint. The date for the ceremony, to be held in the Vatican, has not yet been announced.
“Kateri has been an inspiration for generations of people – not only in Kahnawà:ke, but across North America,” said Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. “It’s been over 35 years since her Beatification, so the patience of the faithful has been rewarded. Special congratulations to Deacon Ron Boyer, who has been instrumental in her canonization.”
A sizeable contingent of people from Kahnawà:ke made the trip to the Vatican to witness Kateri’s Beautification ceremony in June 1980
