MCK issues statement on Kateri�s canonization

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) wishes to congratulate the members of Kahnaw�:ke�s Catholic community on the announcement that Kateri Tekakw�:tha has been named by the Vatican for canonization.

Upon her canonization, she will be declared a saint. The date for the ceremony, to be held in the Vatican, has not yet been announced.

�Kateri has been an inspiration for generations of people � not only in Kahnaw�:ke, but across North America,� said Grand Chief Michael Ahr�hron Delisle, Jr.  �It�s been over 35 years since her Beatification, so the patience of the faithful has been rewarded. Special congratulations to Deacon Ron Boyer, who has been instrumental in her canonization.� 

A sizeable contingent of people from Kahnaw�:ke made the trip to the Vatican to witness Kateri�s Beautification ceremony in June 1980
