The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that the Tioweró:ton Committee has completed the Strategic Planning Process Report which is now available for community members.
Over the past year the Strategic Planning Process involved focus groups with individuals who hold an interest in the Territory, including Community Members, Peacekeepers, Conservation, Caretakers and Committee Members. A survey also took place to collect feedback for the development of a Three Year plan with a twenty (20) year vision for the Territory.
The report was approved by Chief and Council on November 10th, 2011 and addresses the following key issues:
o Governance (Committee composition, policy amendments); o Territory Planning (road construction, building practices); o Commercial Ventures; o Small Business; o Enforcement; and o Hunting, Fishing & Gathering “I am pleased to see the number of people that shared their concerns towards the future of our Territory,” stated Chief Martin Leborgne, who also holds the Tioweró:ton portfolio. “It’s essential that our people govern our Territory and I commend the Tioweró:ton Committee in ensuring it was carried out that way.”
The report is available at the Main Reception desks of the Lands Unit (across from the Kahnawake Youth Center) and the Main Building. It can also be downloaded online at www.kahnawake.com.
