Technical Survey results received on casino issue
02/16/2012
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform the community that it has received the preliminary results of the Technical Survey to gauge Kahnawà:ke feedback on the proposed casino project. The unofficial results were presented by IPSOS-Reid, a neutral polling company, at a meeting this morning.
In simplest terms, the survey indicates support or opposition to the project as follows:
1. Support 52% 2. Opposed 41% 3. Neutral, Unsure, n/a 7%
The random sample survey was conducted between 1 and 8 Enníska/February.
The goal was to complete 400 surveys, which was accomplished. According to IPSOS-Reid, the approximately 45% participation rate was much higher than Canada’s normal rate of around 10%. Results of 400 complete surveys accurately reflect the entire community to within +/- 4% at the time the survey was conducted. The complete results will be posted on the MCK website once the entire report is received and reviewed by Chief & Council. Please be advised that the survey results WILL NOT be the deciding factor on whether or not a casino is built – that will be decided by referendum only.
The next steps on the casino issue will be announced shortly.
