Chief Delormier to step down before end of term

03/01/2012

Chief John Dee Delormier will step down from office before the upcoming MCK Election to pursue a career with the Kahnawake Peacekeepers.

He will continue to act in his capacity as a Council Chief until he begins his police training, which is tentatively scheduled for the end of April or early May.

“I’ve wanted to pursue a career with the Peacekeepers for quite a while,” said Chief Delormier. “I was fortunate enough to be accepted recently. Of course, I would have preferred to finish out the term but, as it turns out, there was an opportunity to take the training immediately, so I chose to do that as there is no way of knowing when it would be offered again.”

Chief Delormier was first elected in 2006, serving two terms. He currently holds the Lands, Economic Development, Youth and Gaming portfolios.

“I wish to thank the community for having the confidence in me,” he continued. “Sitting as a Council Chief has been both challenging and rewarding. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve the community and will continue to do so – in a different role.”
