03/05/2012
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) announced today that it has issued a Call for Nominations for an ‘Electoral Officer’ for the Casino Project referendum.
The person selected will be responsible to manage and supervise the Casino Project referendum process, including setting the date for the referendum itself.
The nomination deadline is Thursday, 15 Enniskó:wa/March at 4:00 p.m. Nomination forms are available at the MCK main office reception and must be witnessed, completed and handed in at the same location.
Candidates for Electoral Officer must be listed as a member on the Kahnawá:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry and sign a Privacy Waiver for the purpose of verifying that they meet the eligibility criteria provided in the Kahnawà:ke Referendum Procedures. Candidates must be nominated and seconded by two community members listed as members on the Kahnawá:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry.
As announced last week, the MCK has now moved into Phase 3, which is the final phase of the project that began in Onerahtókha/April 2011 and will now lead directly to a referendum to be held before the upcoming 2012 MCK Election.
