The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) is proud to announce that the first draft of the Kahnawà:ke Justice Act has been completed and will soon be available for public viewing on the www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com website.

The document was formally accepted at a short ceremony held late yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at the Court of Kahnawà:ke. It was approved unanimously by the members of the Justice working group; community representatives Chris Bush, Jeremiah Johnson, Kenneth Diabo and Richard Nolan; and the participating members of the KLCC Chiefs Advisory Group (Mike Bush, Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer, Martin Leborgne and Clinton Phillips).

The document will now be sent to the MCK’s Legal Services to ensure proper formatting.

In accordance with the Community Decision Making Process, preparations will begin immediately to organize a Community Hearing at which time the draft will be formally presented to Kahnawa’kehró:non for further discussion. No date has yet been set.

The mandate to create the draft was given by the community at a duly convened Community Hearing held on 3, Enníska-February 2010.
