Chief Clinton Phillips to address land issues at Parliament
05/14/2012
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that Chief Clinton Phillips will be making a presentation to the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Tuesday, 15 Onerahtohkó:wa-May.
The ten-minute presentation will be on Land Use and Sustainable Economic Development in Kahnawą:ke. Specifically, the focus will be on the Addition to Reserve Lands (ATR) process; land transfers; and leases of Kahnawą:ke lands.
The presentation will take place during the 3 to 6pm time block and will be followed by a question and answer period.
I will make sure I drive our issues home, said Chief Phillips. Our main focus is on the ATR process, which currently takes far too long. Too many years are spent waiting for lands to be returned to us lands that are ours in the first place.
