Fuel tax class action information session

08/16/2012

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that an information session for Kahnawa’kehró:non regarding a Fuel Tax class action suit will be held at the Kahnawake Peacekeeper station community room on Wednesday, August 22nd from 6pm – 9pm.

COLLECTIVA CLASS ACTION SERVICES has been mandated by the Quebec Superior Court to administer the claims of all registered Indians who are eligible for compensation. Two representatives from Collectiva will explain the claim process and assist eligible community members in filing a claim. Claimants should have on hand a Native Status card and a 2nd form of I.D. with your address included, or a bill with your address as proof of residency.

At this information session the representatives will also explain the following:

1.    The key elements of the Settlement agreement;
2.    Who can claim;
3.    The way in which the compensation is calculated;
4.    How to make a claim;
5.    The required documentation to submit with a claim.

On December 9, 2011 the Superior Court approved a settlement of the class action regarding fuel tax paid by registered Indians on reserve. Eligible persons have until July 8, 2013 to submit a claim.

The MCK wishes to make it clear that this session is for the compensation process only and not the ‘point of sale system’. This is not an MCK initiative. Please visit Collectiva’s website for exact and accurate information on the class action at www.collectiva.ca.
