MCK and KCSC reach agreement

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke (MCK) wishes to inform Kahnawakehr�:non that an agreement has been reached between the MCK and the Kahnawake Combined Schools Committee (KCSC) that will return authority to the KCSC as part of a Joint Working Group that includes the MCK; allow for work to begin to address concerns about the Constitution; and to ensure that staff will not be threatened because of their support or disagreement with actions taken during the past several months. 

Chief & Council were unanimous in their support for a Mohawk Council Executive Directive (MCED) signed today that rescinds the previous MCED that revoked the authority of the KCSC.

Additionally, the Interim Board of Trustees that had been put in place by the MCK and the Ad Hoc Committee that had been created in support of the KCSC have been dissolved.

The decision was announced to the local media and a small group of people immediately after today�s meeting concluded.

A joint statement will be issued tomorrow to assure parents, students, staff and other community members that the education of our children is paramount and that every effort will be made to ensure that the Constitution is a true reflection of all stakeholders and meets today�s needs.
