10/19/2012
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Grand Chief Michael Ahríhron Delisle, Jr. and Chief Rhonda Kirby will represent the MCK at the ceremonies being held at the Vatican on Sunday, 21 Kenténha/October at which Kateri Tekakwitha will be formally declared a Saint in the Roman Catholic Church.
The chiefs will be among an estimated 200 Kahnawa’kehró:non who have made the trip to attend the ceremonies in person. Hundreds of other Native Americans from across North America are also expected to be in attendance.
Kahnawa’kehró:non will be able to watch a replay of the actual ceremony at 9am Sunday morning at the Kateri School. Additionally, those who cannot attend the special Kahnawà:ke mass at 10:30am can watch a live broadcast of the event on Paul’s Cable channel 35 (one of the two community channels).
Kateri is the first Native American to be declared a Saint by the Catholic Church.
