Chiefs in Ottawa to review Kahnawake/Canada Relations process

11/06/2012

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke would like to inform the community that Chiefs Lloyd Phillips and Clinton Phillips will be attending a meeting on the Kahnawą:ke/Canada Relations (K/CR) process in Gatineau, Quebec today (Tuesday, 6 Kentenhkó:wa/November).

The Chiefs will meet with Canada’s representatives for the six month review of the process. They will evaluate what is working and what changes need to be made to improve the process.

The K/CR Framework was signed this past February in Kahnawą:ke by Grand Chief Michael Ahrķhron Delisle, Jr. and Canada’s Minister for Aboriginal Affairs John Duncan. The Framework is the working document which outlines the renewed relationship and responsibilities. It deals specifically with Kahnawą:ke Membership and Kahnawą:ke Lands.

The Chiefs will return to the office on Wednesday.
