Mercier Bridge weekend lane closure

12/13/2012

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke wishes to inform motorists that, due to weather forecasts, the Ministčre des Transports du Quebec (MTQ) is announcing the following changes to the lane configuration for this weekend on the Mercier Bridge.

From Friday, December 14th at 8pm until Monday, December 17th at 5am, the Kahnawą:ke-bound bridge will be completely closed to traffic for reinforcement work of the structural elements.

During this period traffic will be managed as follow:

•    Friday, December 14th, 8pm until Saturday, December 15th, 11:59pm: Traffic will be detoured on the Montreal-bound bridge with one lane will be open in each direction.

•    Sunday, December 16th, Midnight until Monday, December 17th, 5am: both Montreal-bound lanes will be open. No traffic to the South Shore.

This one way configuration will facilitate snow removal and de-icing operations. These operations cannot be performed with two-way traffic because the width of the lanes is not adequate for snow removal vehicles. Due to these circumstances, the only conceivable configuration is the one mentioned above. The MTQ is aware of the impacts caused to traffic and thanks all road users for their patience and understanding.

These works might be postponed or shortened due to weather conditions, operational constraints or work progression. Other lane closures might be necessary for such work in the coming weeks.
