Chiefs to meet on Kahnawake-Canada Relations on Wednesday
01/15/2013
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that Chiefs Lloyd Phillips and Clinton Phillips will be in Gatineau tomorrow (Wednesday) for a scheduled meeting on Kahnawà:ke-Canada Relations.
The main agenda items are: 1. Individual versus Collective Rights 2. Rights and Benefits as they relate to Membership
“This meeting is not related to the recent events happening across the country,” said Lloyd Phillips. “This is a process that has been on-going since early last year. As we’ve said many times, we believe it’s better to sit and discuss our issues face-to-face in the hope of finding solutions.”
The Kahnawake-Canada Relations process was formalized by a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 16, Enníska-February 2012 as a means of addressing the issues of Membership and Lands Management. There are provisions to add other subject matters as deemed necessary.
