Animal Protection receives donation

01/17/2013

The Animal Protection department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to thank Friendly Giants Dog Rescue in Ottawa, Ontario for a donation of 139 kilograms of dog food courtesy of the Ottawa Humane Society.

"By networking the dogs that come in to our building, we’ve established great relationships with animal rescue operations in the Ontario area," said Deidra Whyte, Assistant Animal Protection Officer. "Kim Faulkes of the Friendly Giants Dog Rescue drove down to pick up a Great Dane mix we had here for rescue and delivered the donation. It′s nice to know that we can all work together to save a little here and there."

Because budgets are an issue, the donation will allow more of the Department’s limited funds to be used in  other important initiatives, such as low cost vaccination, spay & neuter programs, promotion of adoption/rescue of pets rather than pet store purchases, and continuing to work with rescues (near and far) for animals who don’t get adopted locally.

"The doggies who come into Animal Protection are definitely set for a while,” continued Whyte. “We are so grateful and thankful, as every little bit helps,"
