Wanted - Community feedback on revised Type II process for creating/amending certain laws
01/21/2013
The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to announce that it is launching a campaign to gain community feedback on a proposal to streamline the Community Decision Making Process to create or amend certain types of Kahnawà:ke laws.
The main change would be to reduce the number of hearings to two, from the current three.
“These changes are being proposed in the interest of making our processes more efficient,” said KLCC Coordinator Kahente Horn-Miller. “The changes are reflective of the suggestions we’ve received from community members. The next step is to ask for direct feedback from the people – which is what we’re doing now.”
Specifically, the proposal is for laws that are generally regulatory in nature which use the ‘Type II’ process. Laws of general application that use the ‘Type I’ process will not be affected.
The consultation will begin immediately and continue until March 1, 2013. Community members are asked to visit the website at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com or contact the KLCC directly at 450-632-7500. Additionally, members of the KLCC will be present at the Kahnawake Services Complex during the next few weeks to accept feedback and answer questions.
