The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke would like to announce that Chief Lloyd Phillips and Grand Chief Michael Ahrķhron Delisle, Jr. are in Quebec City for the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador general assembly, which takes place today (Tuesday) and tomorrow.
The election for the position of Regional Chief will be held tomorrow as part of the assembly. As previously announced, Chief Phillips is running for the position against incumbent Ghislain Picard. If successful he would be required to resign his position as a Council Chief on the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke, which would result in a by-election being called to fill the vacant seat.
Chief Delisle will participate in the various AFNQL election processes. As a matter of note, he will also attend a separate Quebec/Kahnawą:ke Relations maintable meeting this afternoon. Agenda items include a recap of the meeting with Premier Pauline Marois and various updates on topics ranging from the transfer of Highway 30 lands, the 207 rehabilitation, economic development and labor issues.
