Transfer Depot no longer accepting household waste April 1st
02/18/2013
The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform Kahnawa′kehró:non that household waste will no longer be accepted at the Transfer Depot as of April 1, 2013.
In review of the current waste management operations, it was recognized that household garbage disposal at the Transfer Depot is a duplication of services at a substantial expense; monies that could be used for other services.
The original intent of allowing household waste disposal at the Transfer Depot was to provide service to community members who did not receive curbside garbage pickup for the following reasons: • they resided on private roads and refuse our service provider access to their road • they resided on roads where the garbage truck is unable to turn around However, since the initiation of this service, the number of homes without service has decreased and now the number of community members affected is minimal. Elimination of this duplication of services would realize a yearly cost savings in excess of $60,000. All other services provided by the Transfer Depot will not be affected.
