Animal Protection Fees and Responsible Ownership

03/28/2013

The Animal Protection Department of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawąke would like to inform the community that effective Tuesday April 2nd 2013 Animal Protection Reclamation Rates will be adjusted to reflect increased Overall Care Veterinary and Euthanasia costs. Please find attached the new rates (see PDF)

The Animal Protection Program advocates responsible pet ownership and as a result of increased complaints from community members, patrols will be stepped up and loose animals will be taken in.

Pet owners have the responsibility to ensure their pets are properly taken care of according to the Kahnawą:ke Animal Control Law.

Responsible pet ownership includes the following: having your pets spayed/neutered, receiving vaccinations, proper shelter, food and water and ensuring your pets do not run loose by utilizing a fence or zip-lines, invisible fences and leashes for walks.

Loose pets can be a danger to themselves and often cause fear in other community members, even though the animal is friendly. With the warmer weather more community members will be walking and enjoying the outdoors. Please do you part as a responsible pet owner and not allow your animal to roam loose.

For more information please do not hesitate to contact the Animal Protection department at the Community Protection Unit at (450) 632-0635.
