Major works set for Mercier Bridge
04/02/2013
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawàke would like to inform the community that, according to the Jacques Cartier Champlain Bridge Corporation (JCCBI) major work to replace slabs on the federal portion of the Mercier Bridge will take place in the upcoming months.
After averaging approximately 175 slabs per year for the past three years, the objective is to replace more than 300 slabs, to complete two-thirds of the work planned for 2013-2014. To accomplish this, this year’s program aims to mainly carry out work on various weeknights (8pm to 5am) and certain weekends (approximately ten to fifteen), starting this month. One lane in each direction will remain open while night and weekend works take place.
Additionally, a major work ‘blitz’ is planned, at which time work will take place night and day for a period of one month (Saturday, July 13 to Sunday, August 11). During this ‘blitz’ period, one lane in each direction will remain open both night and day.
The planners have scheduled works with the goal of causing the least amount of disruption as possible, though it is expected that delays will occur. Please note that the objectives of the ‘blitz’ period will be to reduce total work duration; maximize worksite efficiency; and to take advantage of the summer vacation period.
Again, please note that this notice is in relation to works being planned for the ‘federal portion’ of the Bridge. As always, regular notices will be issued to ensure users will be informed in advance of any works that are planned.
