Additional info for Wednesday’s Membership Law Community Consultation: all welcome
The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to remind community members that a Community Consultation ‘continuation’ meeting being called for this Wednesday evening to continue deliberations and discussions with the goal of reaching consensus on the first section of the amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law.
The KLCC is particularly hoping that persons who participated in any of the Group 3 discussions/ deliberations will be in attendance. Other community members, including participants in the other two groups, are also welcome to attend.
The KLCC would like to announce that it is considering more formally instituting a number of minor adjustments in order to address concerns regarding the length of time that is occasionally necessary to reach consensus. They are as follows: 1. ‘Continuation’ meetings could be called at the request of the deliberating group when it is clear that a consensus will not be reached, and it appears that significant additional time may be required before the goal is reached. 2. All are welcome to attend. 3. Recorders, resource persons and facilitators will be available for only the deliberating group. 4. The meeting ends when consensus is reached. The group will then present their consensus and comments at the next ‘regular’ Community Consultation meeting.
This special meeting will be held on Wednesday, 24 Onerahtókha/April from 6pm to 8:30pm at the MCK main offices. Due to the circumstances, the KLCC is urging people to arrive between 5:45 and 5:55pm in order to address logistical concerns and start the meeting on time.
Participants are strongly urged to view the relevant documents and information online at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com or at the Membership Office (located at the Social Development Unit).
