No consensus, additional Membership Law continuation meeting scheduled for next week
04/25/2013
The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to announce that an additional Community Consultation ‘continuation’ meeting will be held next Wednesday to continue deliberations and discussions with the goal of reaching consensus on the first section of the amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law.
“While the group seemed to be approaching consensus, time became an issue and the group supported the suggestion to hold an additional meeting next week under the same conditions as last night’s ‘continuation’ meeting,” said KLCC Coordinator Kahente Horn-Miller.
Any persons who participated in any of the Group 3 discussions/ deliberations are once again urged to attend. Other community members, including participants in the other two groups, are also welcome to observe.
This special meeting will be held on Wednesday, 1 Onerahtohkó:wa/May from 6pm to 8:30pm at the MCK main offices. Due to the circumstances, the KLCC is urging people to arrive between 5:45 and 5:55pm in order to address logistical concerns and start the meeting on time.
“We’d like to thank the approximately 15 people who attended as participants or observers,” Ms. Horn-Miller said. “We especially appreciate the fact that almost everyone arrived a few minutes early, as we requested. We were able to start on time and use the entire two-and-a-half hours to exchange ideas and make suggestions. I thought it was a very stimulating meeting.”
Participants are strongly urged to view the relevant documents and information online at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com or at the Membership Office (located at the Social Development Unit). The next ‘full’ Community Consultation, with all three groups, will be held on Thursday, 9 Onerahtohkó:wa/May.
