Full-scale Membership Law consultation resumes May 9th

05/02/2013

The Kahnaw:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to inform the community that full-scale Community Consultations will resume on amendments to the Kahnaw:ke Membership Law on Thursday, 9 Onerahtohk:wa-May.

Two special continuation meetings were held by Group 3 in an attempt to reach consensus. The most recent was held last evening (1, Onerahtohk:wa/May). Though consensus was reached on only a part of the Membership criteria, group 3 will be expected to present to the entire group next Thursday.

It is vital that we move forward in the process, said KLCC Coordinator Kahente Horn-Miller. Group 3 should be commended for taking the initiative to meet on its own in an open forum that met the requirements of the Community Decision Making Process. Next weeks Consultation is very important there is a need to bring a consensus forth to allow the process to move ahead. We are confident that all three groups will be engaged.

The Community Consultation will be held from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Karonhiannhnha School. New participants are strongly encouraged to attend.

Wed like to remind everyone that its far more efficient to read the relevant documents, such as the Law or recaps of previous meetings, Kahente continued. Id be very happy to answer any questions on the Community Decision Making Process, while Rose-Ann Morris is available to answer questions on the proposed amendments and the law itself.

The documents are available at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com.
