05/02/2013
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform Kahnawakehró:non that meetings of the Iroquois Caucus scheduled for today and tomorrow have been rescheduled for Monday and Tuesday, 6 and 7 Onerahtohkó:wa-May in Ottawa.
The meetings were postponed out of respect to several members of the Six Nations delegation who are mourning the passing of a respected elder from their community.
Agenda items include updates on impending Federal legislation on the division of matrimonial assets (S-2) as well as laws regarding tobacco; discussions on the status of Aboriginal Justices of the Peace and their legal authority; the planning of a follow-up meeting with Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn A-In-Chut Atleo; Border Crossing; and the Aboriginal and Northern Development Canada approach to education.
Chiefs Martin Leborgne, Billy Diabo and Bobby Patton will be attending. They will leave for Ottawa after participating in Monday’s Council meeting and return to the office on Wednesday.
