Membership Law Community Consultations resume, KLCC clarifies important participation guidelines
05/29/2013
The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to remind Kahnawa′kehró:non that the dates of the next two Community Consultations on amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law are as follows:
Dates - Thursday, May 30 and Thursday, June 6, 2013 Times - 6pm to 8:30pm Location - Karonhianónhnha School Gymnasium
A proposal/suggestion to consider applicants who have three Mohawk great-grandparents under certain circumstances or with certain considerations will continue to be discussed this Thursday (30, Onerahtohkó:wa/May).
Please note that, in accordance with KLCC procedures, observers will be directed to the observers’ tables provided for that purpose.
“The KLCC would like to inform/remind the community that only those community members who are on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry are eligible to participate in the Community Decision Making Process Hearings,” said KLCC Coordinator Kahente Horn-Miller. “In order to show transparency and accountability, the CDMP ensures that observers may attend the Hearings and, in order to facilitate this, observer tables will be stationed within the Hearings. Those not on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka registry must remain at the observers table(s). We hope that all concerned will respect the process as it stands.”
For more information on this proposal and to gain an understanding of the discussion, please refer to the minutes posted at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com.
