Membership Law Community Consultation cancelled, to resume next Thursday, June 6th
05/31/2013
The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to inform Kahnawa’kehró:non that last evening’s Community Consultation for amendments to the Kahnawà:ke Membership Law was cancelled due to low attendance.
The next meeting will go on, as scheduled, next Thursday (6, Ohiarí:ha/June) at 6pm at the Karonhianónhnha School gymnasium.
A proposal/suggestion to consider applicants who have three Mohawk great-grandparents under certain circumstances or with certain considerations will continue to be discussed.
“While there were several people in attendance, we felt that it was very important to respect the group dynamic that had been established throughout the first eight meetings,” said KLCC Coordinator Kahente Horn-Miller. ”Simply, there just weren’t sufficient numbers for us to carry on without compromising the process – which those in attendance agreed with. Therefore, we’ll move on to next week’s Consultation and take it from there.”
IMPORTANT: Please note that, in accordance with KLCC procedures, observers will be directed to the observers’ tables provided for that purpose.
For more information on this proposal and to gain an understanding of the discussion, please refer to the minutes posted at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com.
