Grand Chief Responds to Gazette Editorial by Chateauguay Mayor

The Mohawk Council of Kahnaw�:ke wishes to inform the community that Grand Chief Michael Ahr�hron Delisle, Jr. has responded to Chateauguay mayor Nathalie Simon�s �op ed� published in the July 10th Montreal Gazette. His response, which is published in today�s Gazette, addresses several inconsistencies included in her article.

�We have no choice but to respond to Ms. Simon�s article,� said Chief Delisle. �Decisions should always be made based on accurate information � there is no room for revisionist history.�

The four mayors of the Roussillon, which surround Kahnaw�:ke, announced on June 26th that they were taking legal action to block the recent Quebec government decree that confirmed the return of certain lands adjacent to Highways 30/730 that are contiguous to Kahnaw�:ke. This has been the first-ever significant return of land to the community.
