07/30/2013
The Community Protection Unit (CPU) of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is inviting all Kahnawa′kehró:non to a special community meeting to consult with residents and present a report from CP Rail on the requirements necessary to cease the sounding of train whistles at certain crossings in the community.
Agenda items include: 1. Presentation of Engineer′s Report 2. Concerns of Safety Officials 3. Open discussion 4. Decision: Continue whistle cessation or maintain whistles
The meeting will be held outdoors (rain or shine) at the Tyler Glasgow Memorial by the South Texas railway crossing on Wednesday, August 7th beginning at 7pm.
The MCK received the official report last June provided by Canadian Pacific on the Safety Assessment and Audit to determine the feasibility of discontinuing certain mandatory train whistles in the area of the Clay Mountains and New Development (“South Texas”). Chief & Council instructed CPU to consult with community members, particularly residents in the affected area, before they make any decision on the issue.
