2nd Annual Creek and Shoreline Clean-up

09/17/2013

The Kahnawą:ke Environment Protection Office is pleased to announce that the 2nd Annual Kahnawą:ke Creek and Shoreline Clean-Up event will take place on Thursday, September 26th from 9am until 2:30pm with a focus on portions of the Suzanne and Little Suzanne Rivers.

The cleanup intends to bring awareness to Kahnawą:ke’s waterways and the impacts that everyone’s actions have on water quality and wildlife habitat in the creeks.

An information booth with cleaning supplies will be located in the KSCS Family and Wellness Centre parking lot (located on Mohawk Trail) between 9am and 12pm.

A debris damn will be cleared in the Suzanne River between 9am and 12pm. Participants are asked to meet in the parking lot of the KSCS Family and Wellness Centre. This will be followed by the removal of garbage along the Little Suzanne River from 12:30pm until 2:30pm. Participants are asked to meet at the bottom of the Clay Mountains area. (See attached map for locations)

Participants are encouraged to wear waterproof boots or hip waders for cleaning. In case of bad weather, the clean-up will take place the following day, Friday, September 27th.

For further information on the initiative or to identify other problem areas that could be cleaned up, contact the Environment Protection Office at 450-635-0600.
