Recap of MCK presentation to the National Energy Board re - Enbridge pipeline proposal
10/09/2013
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to update the community in regard to the presentation made earlier today before the National Energy Board in relation to the proposed extension/reversal of Enbridge’s Line 9B, which runs between Montreal and Westover, Ontario.
“We’re very pleased to report that our message was presented in a very public forum,” said Environment Portfolio Chief Clinton Phillips, who appeared at the hearing with representatives from the Environment Protection Office and MCK Legal Services. “We weren’t asked any questions by the three Board members on the panel, so I can’t gauge their reaction but, overall, we are confident that we were able to address all of the big issues and, probably, most of the smaller ones, too.”
“The MCK hopes the Board will consider our arguments carefully and conclude that there are too many risks associated with the project in its current form,” he said. “The MCK hopes that the Board will direct Enbridge to realize that information sharing is not enough, and that meaningful engagement with First Nations and Kahnawà:ke must occur.”
